CASA Annual Golf Classic

Monday, April 25, Boundary Oak Golf Course

Our CASA Golf Classic, sponsored by the PMI Foundation and Chicago Title, was an overwhelming success that set a new standard for future CASA Golf events. Lots of sunshine, no wind and temperatures in the mid-70s, made it a perfect day for 126 golfers (31.5 teams) who had a great time at the lovely Boundary Oak course in Walnut Creek.

Players vied competitively in a Putting contest, Closest to the Pin and Longest Drive, and First Place grand prize. Carla Minnard sank her putt and won two rounds of golf and lunch at Round Hill Country Club. The longest drives were Patrick Forrest and Susan Reyes who both received putters from Bob Boldt’s Golf Shoppe. First Place was won by the team of Greg Betty (Printing Sponsor), Bob Rosenblat and Jon Adams, and they each received a “Crystal Golf Ball” mounted on marble.

Later that evening, in Blake’s Ballroom, CASA and approximately 130 guests recognized Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness month with our Light of Hope Reception.

Joe Fonzi, Weekend Sports Anchor for KTVU Channel 2, was Master of Ceremony for the evening. The program included a $7,000 check presentation to CASA by local Jewelers for Children member, William McConnell and Son Jewelers. Moreover, CASA was awarded the 2005 "People Helping People Award” in recognition of CASA’s dedication to helping children in need. What made the evening even more special was that the presenter, Development Director of New Directions Counseling Center Jeremy Jones, was a former CASA Child. He shared his story with our guests and then presented the award to Board President Malcolm Sher. Then Keith Archuleta, Executive Director of CASA, recognized our event sponsors, donors, volunteers, and golf committee members for all their hard work and dedication to CASA.

Everyone enjoyed the wonderful fresh Surf and Turf banquet provided by Blake’s and a live auction run by auctioneer and CASA volunteer John Gallo, as CASA supporters bid higher and higher to secure not only the sought-after items, but CASA’s future of advocating for abused and neglected children. The item that encouraged the highest bid was “It’s Time for Baseball” an A’s luxury box for 12. This item fetched a sum of $900!

Overall, this day of golf and evening reception helped CASA to gross over $50,000! Thank You!!!

Of course, this would not have been possible without the generous contributions of auction items, raffle ticket and foursome purchases, the Presenting Sponsorships from PMI and Chicago Title, the Reception Sponsorship from SBC, and the Premiere Sponsorships from Christina & Adam Richards, Pillsbury Winthrop, D & J Tile Co, WebCor, Morgan Stanley, The Strange Law Firm, Sprig Electric, Sher Minnard, and First Allied Mortgage.

Special thanks are in order to the many volunteers who contributed valuable time to assure we had help during this event.
